The ADLs of Addiction Recovery

Yes, chemical addictions like alcohol and drugs, along with behavioral addictions such as sex, food, gambling and others affect the brain. But, be that as it may.

ADLs, The Activities of Daily Living, for Addiction Recovery, are the actions you have to do, usually some each day, as a member of the human race in order to adequately function in our world as it is. And these ADLs are absolutely essential for Addiction Recovery

No matter how it comes,
No matter when it comes,
No matter where it comes from,
No matter who initiates it,
You take it on.

To Be Ready:

You get 7 to 8 hours sleep each night. Need a place to sleep and eat? Find a program which will help you. Yes, they have rules. But you are stronger than you think. Bend your lifestyle a bit.

You eat three meals a day, including breakfast.
You wash your face and comb your hair upon rising.
You bathe and shave at least every three days.
You brush your teeth each day. And you see your counselor or sponsor on time!

You say three positive recovery affirmations daily.
You try to shine your shoes, now and then.

People who are Not-Addicted aren’t some type of different species from outer space.

They are ordinary human beings who, do laundry, wash dishes, cook meals, make beds, read books, rake yards, watch sunsets, go to work, have kids, buy groceries, visit people, pray, and find something of value in their daily lives and activities.

A prayer, affirmation, meditation, or just watching it rain and marveling at natures way, and fury.

You can eliminate addictive urges, cravings, impulses, and triggers, by replacing them with more natural, satisfying, life alternatives.

Give yourself a real chance at recovery, take your ADLs seriously. They form a daily platform for you Addiction Recovery. Day by Day.
